Tostadas

Tostadas
from Mexico
Chef Yum Tum crossed the Gulf of Mexico to bring you this wonderful recipe. You can make it your own by adding any ingredients you and your friends like. The Chef likes pineapple on her Tostada!
Serves: 4 people or 8 Tostadas
Set oven temperature: 350 degrees

  1. 1 package of Corn Tostada Shells
  2. 14 oz. can of Refried Beans
  3. Then any extra protein that you like:  ground tofu, black beans, ground turkey, shrimp, fish, or lean ground beef.
  4. 10 oz or 1 1/2 C grated cheese, you choose what kind!
  5. 2 or 3 tomatoes chopped
  6. Something green for color, like cilantro, parsley, spinach, or lettuce. Chopped into small pieces
  7. Then any extra veggies that you like: pineapple, green or white onions, salsa, olives, or avacados...you decide.

Spread a layer of refried beans on 8 tostada shells. Then use a spoon to sprinkle on an extra protein, then top with cheese. Put Tostadas on a cookie sheet in the oven and bake for 5 minutes.
Now for the fun part!
Put all your colorful tomatoes, green things, and extra veggies on a plate or in bowls and lay them out for your guests to "dress" their tostadas just the way they like.

Well done! Send me a picture of your tostada and we'll hand it in our food gallery.
