  1. Hello parents, I'm Vanessa Jacky-Davis and I love food. Chef Yum Tum's story is much like my own and I thought it would be great to create a blog for kids about cooking, eating, and thinking about food. There are so many different opinions out there, that understanding how to eat right can be so confusing that it might just be easier to stop thinking about it altogether. So I wanted to make a place that offers them basic health and cooking information, personal power over what they eat, and a creative and fun outlet.

I will leave it to your discretion to decide which activities are appropriate for the age of your child. As a reference, my son began learning a lot of cooking techniques when he was 5, such as, chopping small amounts of fruit and cheese with a small knife, measuring with measuring cups and spoons, holding a mixer, and cracking eggs.
At 4 some kids might be able to count out quantities and help clean fruits and vegetables.
And at 3 and even 2, little ones can help combine, mix, and decorate.
I encourage you to try some of these recipes with your little ones and suggest kids around 8 or more try tocook dinner or a weekend breakfast once a month, or once a week if they love it.
    Me as a Parent:

As a parent I struggle each day with new ways to introduce new meals, improve old stand-by's, and get my kids excited about not just eating, but embracing what and how we eat. Of all the things we teach our kids, food and action are the basic things that will prevent disease and promote a long enjoyable life. And learning how to cook food, grow food, and eat food will sustain our children through even the most difficult circumstances.
